Volunteer Resources

If you’re looking to volunteer in the library, get in touch with the reference librarian at reference@scituatelibrary.org to discuss possible opportunities.

We always need lots of volunteers to help with our Book Sale in October, but there are certain times of year where we can’t accommodate the number of requests we get. Teens, if you have a deadline for community service hours for school, be sure to ask early.

If we don’t have a place for you, here is a list of places to find volunteer opportunities:

General

The following sites are good places to find volunteer work that is suited to your abilities and interests.

Animal Shelters

Shelters are always in need of help. You can call the Scituate Animal Shelter at 647-7200, or send them an email at scituatepound1@juno.com

You can follow this link to a map of nearby shelters that may need your help: RI Animal Shelters.

(As of 8/2017, all sources say the Woonsocket Cat Sanctuary and Burrillville Animal Control are particularly volunteer-friendly.)

RI Community Food Bank

Check their website, RIfoodbank.org, for opportunities. As of 8/2017, they have no regular positions available, but students looking for community service hours can email jhebert@rifoodbank.org with requests to volunteer.

Other ideas

  • Contact the Cranston Historical Cemetery Commission (cranstoncemeteries@gmail.com) to help maintain old cemetery plots.
  • Check this list from the RI Public Defender’s office for additional suggestions
  • Contact local churches to see if they need help
  • Contact other libraries – big libraries will need more help than small ones.
